How to select a journal for your nursing manuscript
The Intro video includes approximately 10 minutes of instruction.
After viewing the NEW Introduction video, you'll know:
  • Why it is so important to select a journal before you begin writing a manuscript,
  • Where to get ideas for which journal your article belongs in,
  • How and when to query a journal editor,
  • Effective strategies for beginning to write, and
  • Top tips for staying on track and keeping momentum while writing.

The Step 1 video includes approximately 26 minutes of instruction.
After viewing the video for Step 1, you'll be able to:
  • Identify what information belongs in the introductory sections of a journal manuscript,
  • Understand what a broad problem statement is and how to write one,
  • Understand what a local problem statement is and how to write one,
  • Understand how to write and how not to write the literature review, and
  • Know what tense to use when writing the introductory sections of your manuscript.

  • Understand the difference between your project’s purpose and its aims,
  • Write a clear purpose of your project,
  • Identify what a correctly worded outcome aim looks like,
  • Learn about process aims and when to use them, and
  • Understand the components of a well-written purpose and aims so you can write them for your manuscript.

  • Understand the purpose of the Methods section and why it’s so important to your manuscript,
  • Identify the subsections of the Methods and
  • Understand what content belongs in each one,
  • Describe in what order the subsections should be written,
  • Know when to write in first person, and
  • Identify mistakes student authors frequently make when writing the Methods section and learn how to avoid those mistakes in your own manuscript.

  • Identify the right and wrong ways to report results in a journal manuscript,

  • Know what you should definitely NOT do when writing the Results section.
